For someone who is not a runner, running can seem like one of those unattainable goals. It is something a person only thinks about doing but never dreams it is possible.

Truth be told, running is hard. At first, you run a block and feel like your lungs are going to explode. It does get easier. Not EASY, but easier. The beginning years, yes, years of running can be challenging. As with anything else, the more you do it the BETTER you will get. I have been running since middle school but didn't really start RUNNING until my first year of marriage when we moved to Orlando.

I started with a run/walk plan and now I have I have several 5Ks and 2 half marathons under my belt --- Read my race recaps here! --- and you can do the same!

5K- 3.1 miles

1K is equal to .62 miles

If you can commit to running 3-4 times a week you can be on your way to your very FIRST 5K!

I like this plan because it allows you to focus more on your time spent running and not the amount of miles to run.

Here is another option for you to try:

A beginners guide: 4 weeks to a 5k!
This plan does not tell you how fast to go because you should go whatever speed feels comfortable (you should be able to hold a conversation, if you’re huffing and puffing you’re going too fast). The most important thing is to listen to your body. If it says you need more time at a certain distance or to start out with a less intense cardio plan or to have more total rest days do so. Pushing yourself can be a great thing but it is FAR BETTER to listen to your body’s needs than to go too far and get hurt!
Not quite up to running these distances? Check out this awesome starter running plan! It uses intervals to build up your endurance so you can run 1, 2, 3 miles without stopping- I used it every day and it worked for me! :)
