According to Fitness Magazine, the average American only gets 3,000-4,000 of the recommended 10,000 day steps per day.

10,000 steps= 5 miles

Since I have been using my heart rate monitor at Zumba to make sure I am keeping my workout low impact due to pregnancy, I decided to use the pedometer option on my watch as well to see how many steps I was getting.

In a 60 minute class I logged over 6,000 steps.

Not sure how many steps you are getting each day?

Get a pedometer!

They are very inexpensive and you can wear one very discretely. No one will ever know!

This one is less than $7.00 at Amazon

Although I am one of 10 people in the world without an iPhone, there are lots of great apps out there to help count your steps as well.

So here's the plan if you want to play :)

Get a pedometer.

Don't change anything about your daily routine. Nothing. Keep it the same.

From the moment your feet hit the floor in the morning, count your steps.

See what your results are!

Use this scale to see how active you are based on your results.

If you didn't get at least 10,000 steps try the next day to be more mindful of more walking.

Even a 20 minute stroll can add a few thousand steps.

Here are a few other ways to add more steps:

1. Walk anywhere that is less than a mile: bank, library, grocery store, etc.

2. Pace while you are on the phone

3. Take the stairs whenever you can

4. Take a walk on your lunch break

You would be surprised at how quickly steps will add up!

Give it a try and tell me about your success!!!

  1. I used to have a pedometer and it really is eye-opening to see how many steps you do or don't take in one day!

  2. I really want to try that! Running a few miles would add a bunch of steps, right?
